(This is an entirely non-medical post. I need to do something different for a little break. I’m sure medical entries/updates will resume probably right away, but in the meantime, enjoy one completely randomly off-topic.)
There’s a movie that was released in 1977 called Slapshot. It’s kind of a cult favorite hockey movie where a minor league team (the Charlestown Chiefs) is notorious for fighting and violence and outrageous behavior.
At one point in the movie, the team is being bused in to play an away game and a crowd forms to jeer and boo at them. (Because of the aforementioned fighting and violence.) The scene looks like this:
Well, parts the movie were filmed in 1976 back in PA where I’m from. So one of those lovely, booing people is my mom!
She wore the red plaid jacket specifically so she would stand out in the film. And it works! You can easily see her among the crowd.
As the bus goes past, the players on the team stick their naked butts out the bus windows and moons the gathered crowd. They show several outraged shots of the crowd including this one with my mom.
Isn’t that funny? My mom told me that they stood out there All. Night. Long. doing take after take. It was really cold that night too she said. The movie was filmed in 1976 so I wasn’t even born yet when this took place. On a whim this evening, I looked the movie up on Netflix and it was available for streaming so I scrolled through the movie to see her part and snag some screenshots. In case you’re interested in seeing the whole bit (it’s a pretty small segment) it’s at 1hr 1min into the film.
Anyone else know someone who’s been in a movie? Or been an extra themselves?
I LOVE Slapshot! That is so cool that your mom is in it! Lorena & I used to work with a girl who was in the final scene of Parenthood. She played an elf in the school play, her name is Aspen Autrey & she evan made it in the credits. 🙂
Yeah it’s really neat seeing her and saying, “that’s my mom!!” 🙂
And cool about your friend! A credit even? Even neater!
