This whole spending the night at the ER thing is getting a little too common these days! First, let me assure you both I and Love are well. But late yesterday afternoon, we didn’t know that for sure.
Love has his umbilical hernia repair surgery back on January 12th. Because of this, he is, of course, under restrictions for lifting/carrying and generally using his abdomen muscles until the internal stitches have time to fully heal and we can be sure he won’t re-open the repair. Today is three weeks and he has one more week of restrictions.
Well, Tuesday morning he threw up. Which, of course, hurt. But he ate dinner and kept it down so no biggie. Until Wednesday, when he threw up a second time that morning and again after lunch. Now it was becoming an issue. His surgeon is in the OR Wednesday and Thursdays and couldn’t see him until Friday. So after work yesterday, we went to the primary doctor to maybe get something anti-nausea for him and make sure everything was ok.
His abdomen was very tender on one side, and he was having pain again. So they did an X-ray and she didn’t like the look of it; she was worried he might have an obstruction. Given the recent surgery and the tenderness, she didn’t want to risk it and sent us to the ER.
At the ER they gave him pain meds, IV fluids, anti-nausea meds and did a CT scan. We waited for about 5 hours total but in the end, it was all good news. No blockage, no signs of internal infection, no bleeding. So we were able to go home with a script for some further anti-nausea meds to take for the next few days. He’ll see his surgeon as well tomorrow to check in but the ER doc talked to his surgeon last night to brief him on what was going on and the surgeon gave the clear for him to go home.
He’s home today because they discharged him with orders to rest for 1 day.
I’m really ok with not going to the ER again anytime soon. This is one “habit” I’ll be happy to give up!
Yuck! Glad to hear he was okay! *hugs*
Yeah he was all cranky and didn’t want to be there but I was like, better safe than sorry!! Glad it was all good too.
