It’s done this regularly for the 6.5 years we’ve lived here and pretty much nothing ever gets done about it. I know exactly what to do at this point because it’s happened so many times. Every time it does it, I need maintenance to come out and top off the freon.

It was about 6:10pm. The office closes at 6pm. I called and left a message on the emergency maintenance number and waited. And waited.

Normally, you thaw it and don’t put it back on “cool” until you get freon. But this is Florida is July and it was absurdly hot and getting hotter. So by 7:15 or so and them not responding, I just turned it back on. Thankfully it did cool down. I caught the freeze early but still, I know it always needs freon after a freeze. Left another message with emergency maintenance.

By the time Love was heading to bed we still never heard anything. Awesome, right? So I left a voicemail for the office explaining they never replied to the emergency call (wtf?) and that I needed them to come and check the freon, BUT, to come by AFTER 12 NOON. I clearly said that I did NOT want to bothered in the morning and if they couldn’t bother to come when I needed them, at least they could come the time I requested.

9:03am they knocked on my door. Fuckers. He also brought the wrong size filter. Despite the fact that I left the filter size on BOTH maintenance messages, he brought the wrong size.

After he left, I called the office and asked why exactly they showed up at 9am when I clearly stated I wanted them to come by after 12pm. She was snarky and said, “so you’re a/c is fixed and your only problem is that they came at the wrong time?” And I said no, my problem was that they didn’t bother responding to EMERGENCY CALLS last night and if I hadn’t been able to get it working wouldn’t that be fun having no A/c in FLORIDA in JULY? And on top of that, you ignored my specific request. I said I am out on medical leave, I’m not in the best place health-wise, and I’m on a lot of medication right now and the last thing I need is to be bothered and stressed out first thing in the morning. Oh but she’ll “look into it” and find out why they totally dropped the ball on the emergency calls last night.

They’re so quick to do shit when it benefits them but if you’re inconvenienced or put out or if the A/C running for hours runs up your power bills – oh well! So sick of it.

Last night, I noticed our A/C was starting to freeze up when the A/C kept running non-stop for an hour and it was getting warmer in the apartment.
