So, I've been posting and reading a bit on the
BTTF.com message board on the
Back to the Future DVD release and people are actually throwing a fit that the US version "only" comes in Dolby Digital 5.1 and not DTS. *rollseyes* Come
on people, it's a
17 year old film! It sounds just
fine in "only" DD 5.1. Other regional releases (such as I guess the European and Australian) versions come in DTS, but at the cost of all the cool extra features.
Is it nice when I get to use my $30 fiber optic cable to watch a movie which supports DTS? Sure. Is it mandatory for me to enjoy the film? Of course not. I like the movie. I like the movie in Mono (which is how I've heard it for years on old tapes and tv's and broadcast versions). The DD 5.1 soundtrack sounds wonderful and I don't need one more bell and whistle to make me enjoy the movie any more. People are actually NOT buying it just because of the soundtrack issue. Me? I'll be enjoying my movies over and over while they're bitching about how mad they are at the soundtrack options and missing out on a great movie.
