Had a nice day. The sun was pretty warm - we were supposed to get up into the low 80's - but the wind was really cool. Had a nice chill to it. In the shade of the trees, with the wind blowing, I was actually a bit chilly. Wore my horns and enjoyed myself. Saw my mom at the Faire (actually, my Love spotted her), got to catch the Tortuga Twins this weekend (they never make it the first couple weeks here because they're out in Phoenix), and got a neat silver hair twister. It was a good day.
As promised, here's me wearing my horns, though the pic isn't so good.
I love the Renn Faire. I can't believe they're going to bulldoze that beautiful park for another building. Bleck. The trees and such are just so pretty and the entire place is just so vibrant. So many people have enjoyed it for the last 22 years at that exact spot, that it just seems a tragedy to plow it over and pave it. It just really makes me sad. The Faire itself is staying local and will be back next year somewhere in the same tri-county area, but not on those particular grounds anymore. Shame.
Well, two more weekends left and we'll be back out there for the last. Today though, was nice and I had a good day.
Weeeeeeeeee! I love when I try to do something creative and it works!. Ok, we're heading to the Renn Faire tomorrow and they sell cute little clay horns. I always like 'em, but not enough to shell out like $25 on them. I've seen them on this site and I always think that maybe - just maybe - I could do them myself.
So yesterday my Love and I head to Michael's to get him some pencils (for the drawing he's really getting back into and which is looking awesome) and I see the Scultpey on sale. It's like $1.59 a package. So I buy two packs (a metalic-ish pearl color and a bronze) and some dark brown leather cord (meant for necklaces, but which blends great with my hair) for $2.49. I surf the web and come across this site which gives me the reassurance to go ahead and do it so tonight I made two pairs. THEY'RE SO COOL! They really came out great! (took me an hour or so of just playing with the clay to get a feel for it, but it's definatly something I think I can get used to) And, I'm going to wear a pair tomorrow. I'm so excited, I think this is just too cool. Now I want to go buy some more colors and I'm thinking of selling some on the side from my site just 'cause they're so neat.
These pics don't do justice - as you can tell, I'm having lighting issues (flash too bright, not flash, too dark) but it's at least the gist. Weee! I love the fact both my Love and I are really getting into our creative sides of things lately. It's so great! :)
These are twisty outward and look really cool with the twist behind you
These are twisty curved inward like a goat's horns (or, it makes me think of a satyr)
Alright, early start tomorrow so I need to get off the pc, finish up for the night and try to call it an early eve. More pics to come (I'll definately take some wearing them tomorrow). Night all! :)
Grr. Damned time warner. First, every single road runner customer is down because they have a system-wide outage, then when it comes back up, I don't. The intermittent and ever annoying chatter modem issue seems to be back and this is the first time I've had any signal at all since last night. I don't know how long it'll be up and I have a service tech appointment for tomorrow between noon-5pm, so I wanted to make a quick post to let everyone know if I'm MIA, this is why.
I've had a headache and that groggy/queasy feeling all day since 9am this morning, the apartment complex decided they needed to pressure clean the SIDEWALKS and park a truck with an extremely loud compressed air motor directly under my window and leave it running non-stop for almost a solid hour. Ugh. It was seriously painful to listen to. It echoed through the entire apartment and made my ears ring. It was so not a nice way to wake up. (Especially since I went to bed after 3am and had planned to get up sometime around 11, so was right in the middle of still sleeping). I can't believe they spent all this time cleaning the sidewalk - which is streaky now and looks so stupid - and that they somehow thought it'd be ok to have ear-splitting decible levels going non-stop outside people's bedroom windows for an hour. Ugh. Sometimes, the complex is so annoyingly stupid!
I ended up having to get up - after laying there with my head under the pillows and my fingers in my ears - to move to the other side of the apartment, just to stop my ears from exploding. By the time it was over, I was awake, but still very tired and sporting a headache to boot. I ended up trying to lay down for a little again at like 10:30am and slept for about an hour, but by then, I had that tired/groggy/urpy feeling thing going on and it hasn't left all day. Ugh. It's like I need a "reset" button so I can get rid of that feeling.
My mom came over and hung out (and of course, insisted on washing my dirty pots in the sink like she always does *lol*) for a couple hours today. She wanted to get to visit with Kush-ka (she likes to to it like once a week or so since we never know how much longer he'll be with us). Then she discovered VH1-Classic on my digital cable and fell in love. We watched it for like an hour and made fun of all the bad 80's effects and non-sensical videos by Culture Club and related, but she still really wants it. I told her to upgrade to digital cable (only now available in her area as of last year) but she doesn't want to spend the extra $6.95/month despite the fact she said that's exactly the kind of channel she'd leave on all day. Silly mom.
Working on new journal layouts after she left a bit. Then my Love came home and made us an uber yummy dinner (with the hawaiian maranade chicken and our favorite, Uncle Ben's Three Cheese rice) and now we're going to go watch the first new West Wing episode in three weeks. Yeah! So, that's the sum of today thus far. Jef's on a first date tonight, so good thoughts to him and over-eager me will just have to wait for him to call and give me the recap.
Yesterday, my head just started to hurt again and got to a point where I had to just slap a migraine ice on my forehead and call it a night at like 1am. Man, these migraines keep coming out of no where. It drives me crazy. Slept until like 10am and I'm feeling better now though I still don't know why it attacked me in the first place.
I've been working on a ton of necklaces and bracelets again lately. I think I'm gearing up to finally launch my jewelry site. My Love's been big on working on his art again (yeah, it's about time!) and he's doing so great. It's been a creative household lately.
Seems like Jef and Karii are coming over today. She rented a game for the GameCube and he bought one, so gaming looks to be on the agenda. Um...that's about it for the moment, so short with the entry. :)
So, ever since Thursday March 20th, we've had water problems. On Thursday, the water suddenly and unexpectedly went completely out. Nada, nothing, ziltch. Took them about six hours to get it going again (came on after 11pm). After that, we thought all was well, fine, and dandy, but NO, that'd make life too easy. Seems that while the pipe was broken, the water supply got all kinds of contaminated. So....Friday, I went over to work with Ineke on her latest update of the database and had to take a shower there (different county; different water supply). 90% of our county, and about half of another (about half a million people and businesses are effected) are on boil water alert right now. This means you have to boil water (for three minutes!) to use to wash your dishes; boil water before you can use it for anything in cooking; boil your water to brush your teeth; boil water to bath; boil water to make ice cubes; boil water to give to your pets; boil water for everything! Many businesses closed for a day or two because they couldn't function without clean, running water. AND, we're on water restriction - don't use water for anything non-essential (laundry, watering lawns, filling pools, etc. is all considered non-essential). The news channel reported three-to-five days for the ban to be fully lifted. Stop and think for a moment just how hard it is to do anything when the water dripping out of your tap can't be used without boiling it first. For all intensive purposes, it might as well not be there (excepting we can still flush our toliets and that's about it). Ugh. Didn't get to shower today and if the water's not clean tomorrow, I don't know what I'm going to do. Bleck, bleck bleck.
Hrm, let's see...what else. Today we went in search of a bead show that was supposed to be a big deal in the area, only to find it and be faced with an $8 per person admission just to get in the door to look around! My Love and friend Rand came with me with the sole purpose of keeping me company and giving me opinions and such and that would mean $24! just for us to get in the door! Not even buying a single thing! And the guy doing the tickets was such an ass! He was like, "well, they [my Love and Rand] can wait in the lobby" Uh, yeah, thanks there Mr. Genius, I'd loooove if they could just sit around in a 3x3 foot "lobby" while I walk around alone for a couple hours. Joy all around there. *rolleyes* So, we left and headed to a different convention I read about for jewelery and beads and that was only $4 to get in and like twice the size, so we opted to do it. Spent a bunch of money I shouldn't have (payday was Friday and it's hard when you have cash-on-hand you haven't spend on bills yet) but got some nice stuff. One of the ladies at a booth we were both browsing at gave me her wristband to go back to the first place (since the $8 paid for two days - like I'd need to go more then one day *lol*) so I might run down there by myself - ironically afterall - just to look around since it'll be free.
*hums*
Well, I think that's about all the oh-so-interesting news I have to report for now, so I'll call it a night. :)
[edit]WHOO HOO! I just checked the county utilities site and our water ban has been lifted! YEAH!! Water again, oh, just a glorious thing!
