Totally off topic, but... I'm posting it in numerous places in an attempt to make connection with someone who can help. I was inspired by the kindness in receiving the Satyr book (see a few posts down).
Tracking Down Elusive Items - an open call
I know this probably won't result in much, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask...
I am missing only two books to complete my Changeling collection. Two. Kithbook: Pooka and Land of Eight Millions Dreams. Yes, I know they're rare. And I know you can get the Pooka ebook from WW. But, I want the books. I'm so close to having a full set that it gnaws at me to be so close but not quite. I've been a fan of the games since it I first saw it in '95. Long and loyal fan, you know?
So. Here's the thing. I've been wathing ebay and all that, but the books always skyrocket out of my price range (I've seen people pay $100 for a Pooka book. I am too poor for that.). I've been looking for *years* for these books and these are the only two I've not been able to get yet.
Does anyone have either (or both) they're willing to part with (for a reasonable price)? Or know of a store that has one where they can pick it up for me (for a reasonable price)? Or knows of a bookstore, used bookstore, gamestore or related they could CHECK for me? I'm NOT trying to resell them or anything like that, I just really want to finish my collection. I'll pay for the shipping and everything, I just need more eyes and ears.
Thanks to everyone for reading this. You can check out the list of my Changeling collection and some other resource info for the game on my homage site:
Knowing that it was supposed to get down to about 36F last night in our area (and other, more inland and northern areas were going to lows between 25F and 30F), I though something warm for dinner was called for. That and something different. So I called my mom and got the instructions to make chili. I'd never made it before. It came out really good (in fact, I just ate some leftovers now for lunch) despite the fact that my burners are apparently hotter then my mother's burners. During the "simmering" time, it ended up boiling and scortched the kidney beans that were on the bottom of the pot. A minor set-back, but the chili itself was fine.
We never got around to doing my pc last night (big surprise; my switch-over to XP's been in the works for well over a year now). We watched the last of the audtion episodes of American Idol, then since West Wing was a rerun, we watched Angel. Normally we record Angel with the DVR (digital video recorder; like a Tivo but without the need to purchase it) and watch it after WW.
Tonight's a fun night ahead though - hockey! Weeee! My friend Rand's work has season tix, so me, my Love, Rand and our friend Karii will be heading off to see the game tonight. We'll be heading out of here in about a half hour or so to meet up. Hockey's so much fun. I love seeing games in person too. :)
That's about it for now, so since it'll probably be late by the time I get home, I'm out for the day. Ta!
So, a couple weeks ago I got an email asking me if I was still looking for the three Changeling books to complete my collection. I said most definately and that I was interested in buying any of them. Well, he did one better. Today I got the Kithbook: Satyrs in the mail AND the Changeling Poster AND the Changeling promo book they made - three items I've been bidding on for months now but never getting! They're all in such beautiful, pristine condition too. Oh! So giddy!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
My email's on the fritz right now or there'd be a personal note back in addition, but as soon as it's back up (we're updating my pc to WinXP tonight) there will be. I was just too excited though not to mention it here! That means all I need is Kithbook: Pooka and Land of Eight Million Dreams and I've got them all! Whoo hoo! I am SO going to tear into the Satyr book tonight. I can't wait! (You have to understand that I've loved Changeling since it came out in 1995 and I've been slowly but surely collecting all the books. There were problems finding them, or not having money when I did find them in addition to very tiny and limited print runs for the books to start with. So, being so close to having them all is just thrilling!)
Anyway, I may not be back until tomorrow - like I said, we're supposed to be bringing my second, much needed harddrive into play and installing XP on it to hopefully address some bugs, errors and lingering resource issues with my very outdated and much in need of repairing Win98SE install.
Someone on a group I belong to posted a very unfunny "joke" picture equating people with mental and physical disabilities as being stupid losers. I didn't find it funny. Neither did others. When we said as much, the original author - in his typical response - got huffy and made the most ignorant comment I'd ever seen.
> And don't forget...they were called retards in the past.
So I replied:
That doesn't make it right. People of African decent were called "niggers." Mexicans "wetbacks." People used to be allowed to own other people. Women used to be unable to vote.
Just because something USED to happen doesn't mean that it's ok or that it's justified. *MOST* people get that and have grown up and have a modicum of respect for others - or at least pretend to in front of others.
Once again, calling someone stupid is one thing; linking being stupid to someone with a disability is another. One should hope that the difference would be clear to any who call themselves adults.
Is this really that hard to understand? I mean there's being overly PC and then there's just common, human decency - which I'm beginning to think doesn't exist anywhere anymore. I don't know. It just really rubbed me the wrong way.
After sleeping about 13 or 14 hours on Saturday (including the several combined hours that I passed out on the couch - I just couldn't stay awake!), I felt a little better on Sunday. Still not well enough to run to Disney World, but definately not like I had been run over by a Mack truck repeatedly. So we went and saw Big Fish. It was really great. I enjoyed it immensely. I didn't know what to expect going in and I was worried because Tim Burton films always seem to be missing something which ruins the full enjoyment of them, but, I'm happy to report it was just fine. It wasn't dark either - it was lightheated and whimiscal. Kids would be bored (despite the tall tales) because it's more soul-searching and introspective then it is just high fantasy. The son finding out who is father really was. Anyway, I recommend it highly.
So, today's my first jobless day again. I slept in until about 9:45am which isn't that late, but I went to sleep about 1am, so it was more then enough sleep. And, being with the whole cold thing, I've just been needing sleep because I've been so worn out. (In fact, I feel like now that I've been up a half an hour that I could lay back down for a bit.) I have some things to update and upload onto my site - going through it the other day I realized just how empty my domain is and how little I actually keep on it! I've got Halloween pics, pics of a park and xmas pics to upload (my camera's been full and I've just not bothered to go through them until I started last night). I've also got a ton of adorable pics of Mika that demand showing off (like her sticking her head in my friend Rand's sneaker - eww!). After I get some of my stuff taken care of, the big project of the week is getting my Love's art site revamped completely. No putting it off; it needs doing.
Alrighty, well, time to go brush my teeth and all that fun morning routine, so I'm out. Thanks to everyone who stopped to say they hoped I felt better. :)
