There are people on the net that have nothing better to do with their time
then be nasty to other people online. They post rude comments, spend hours
a day talking about sites they hate so much, that they well, spend hours a
day talking about them. (lame) They mock the owners and posters for their
opinions and their right to free speech. They expect everyone to fit into
their narrow-minded little world view or else they throw a temper tantrum.
To these people I say grow up.
Here's a bit of info people...the web is
a HUGE place. If you don't like what I say here, or who I am, or what I
do, or talk about, or what I look like, or the color of my hair, or
whatever asinine thing you dwell on, go somewhere else. It's
really, really easy. Honest. You just click the little "x" in
the corner of your browser and *poof* the offending, big, mean and nasty
site has disappeared.
I pay for this site. It's mine. That
means I can use it for whatever the hell I want to. Don't like it if I'm
bitching about something in my life? Oh fucking well. Go somewhere else.
Think I'm stupid for expressing my thoughts? Too fucking bad, don't read
them. Somewhere along the line, someone forgot this simple fact: Live
and let live Don't like me, cool, fine, whatever, I don't care.
This journal is NOT for you. It's for me. I'm not in it for popularity or
fame or anything stupid like that. I write it because I need to write and
express myself and get things out of my head sometimes. So read or don't,
it doesn't matter, but don't waste my time (or yours) bitching about it.

For Auld Lang Syne
So it's that time again. The end of a year. How did that happen and where did it go...? Of course, with the drunkenness and the parties and the fireworks, there's always one other highly annoying tradition. People who get snarky about "Auld Lang Syne." Inevitably, you hear - at great repetition and frequency - people get snarky and ask, "what the hell does that mean anyway?!" this time of year. They revel in their ignorance and enjoy acting like being too lazy to do the easiest of the easiest searches to actually, oh, novel concept here, learn something. Instead of taking some perverse pride in the fact you don't know what it means and making jokes about how "dumb" it is, why not just go and look it up? For those too lazy to do, I will once again provide my annual informative post on what the song means in the desperate hope that someone will find the entry and stop being so proud of willful ignorance. (What happened to the sense of curiosity in the world? *sighs* I digress...) Auld Lang Syne is a very old Scottish song dating back to the late 17th or early 18th century depending on what source you reference. Auld Lang Syne means ``old long since'' and is adapted from a traditional Scottish folk tune. The basic words date to at least 1711, though some scholars say it was mentioned as early as 1677. Scottish poet Robert Burns is credited with first publishing it, in the mid-1790s, and, researchers say, smoothing out some of the verses and changing the melody. So what are those words exactly anyway? Should auld acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot And days of auld lang syne? Chorus For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne We'll take a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne. So what's "auld?" Well, quite simply, it means "old." Which begins to clue you in to what the "auld lang syne" part means. The phrase refers to "days gone by" or "times long past." But knowing what the words mean, doesn't necessarly impart understanding of the point of the song, so let's break it down a little further. The song starts off asking if old friends and people in our lives should be forgotten and never thought of again; should we forget the days (times) long past? The chorus, however, tells us no. For days gone by, we should toast them, remember them, cherish them. It's actually not a bad little song. And it's worth taking a few moments to learn about it and where it comes from. Especially if you're going to badly hum it while drunk each year. So consider this your last PSA for the year. A few interesting articles on the song and it's history and meaning: http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/123199/cy2_124-4983.shtml http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auld_Lang_Syne As for me, I'll be home. I was hoping to go see Barenaked Ladies. They were here last NYE and Love's company had some free tickets. We didn't end up going and they didn't have any freebies this year. So no BNL for me. *pouts* We're broke, so it'll be a couch-and-tv kind of NYE for us. (Even at $25 a ticket, that's $50 more then I have to spend.) So a happy new year to all. Everyone stay safe and toast a drink to not only what the new year can bring, but the days that brought us here; for auld lang syne.

Christmas Haul
Because we all got a lot of fun stuff, I thought I'd share. Come on, it's all giddy-making to get stuff you like and who doesn't like presents? So I added a new gallery to the photo page. Here's a shot of the tree xmas morning with all the gifts under it. *Note: this is ours, both our families worth and our friends combined. You can see a photo recap here. The sum? *deep breath* Love got me a Nintendo DS and Nintendogs to go with it. Oh. My. Gods. It's SO FREAKIN' CUTE! He also tried to find me Animal Crossing: Wild World (the sequal to the hyper addictive Animal Crossing that came out on the GameCube a few years back) but they're psychotically sold out everywhere. He also got me two of the Boyds Charming Angel figurines (Amissa, Guardian of Friendship and Julianna, Guardian of Wishes.) I have a ton of them and I love them very much. There's always more coming out or ones I haven't seen, so it was great to get two of them. And he also got me the Christmas 2005 Godiva Bear (I have quite the collection of them too.) I got Love two movies - Casablanca and A Christmas Story - and went in halves with our friend Rand on a drafting table for him. He's wanted one for years. I found a beautiful all wood one. I also got him a chair to go with it. He loved it. I was so happy. (Now we just need to find a place to put it!) Our friend Rand got me the Complete Calvin and Hobbes collection. Weeeeeeeeee! I love Calvin and Hobbes. I think it's philosophy in comic form. It's awesome. Three volumes, spanning every comic. He also got me two calendars - a faery one and a celtic one. He got Love and I a joint gift too of a deep fryer. Which rocks. We've been wanting one. I have this thing for french fries. Now I can have them all the time. We fried up some fries for the first time the other night. Turns out the thing cooks fast! Faster then the suggested cooking time. So we ended up with, well...extra, extra, extra crispy fries. Next time we know better. My mom got Love and I a crock pot. It's another thing I've really been wanting. (No, really. I know it's super uncool to want kitchen appliances for the holidays but dammit, I do. I still want a toaster oven too. Heh.) It's a really nice one. In fact, tomorrow we'll be trying our hand at our very first pot roast. Groovy. She also got us a nice sheet set. Always a good thing. She also got me an ornament - this year's Frosty Friends piece. See, there's a bit of a back story on that. They started in 1980 though the first one I got was in 1981. I loved that thing. So much that I kept it on my dresser all year just to look at it. Well, years and years later we saw another one in the store. And realized that it was a series! There had been one each year. This year makes #26 in the series. So a few years back, when we discovered this, we started getting them. She's gotten me one every year for the last few years so that at this point I have about seven. One of these days I'm going to try to go back and fill in the blanks but some are quite expensive at this point and not easy to find. Anyway, it's become a tradition for her to get me the new one each year. She also got us a Yankee Candle in Manderin Cranberry. She always gets everyone a candle for every holiday. Love's parents got us gift certificate to Outback. So did Love's Aunt. *laughs* And while I love steak and all, it's way too much for one place. I don't know how we're going to use all of it! (Anyone want to trade equal value for something like Target let me know. It's just too much for one place!) My Nanny got Love a JCPenny gift card. And my sister got me a gift card for Express. (Home of my way overpriced but amazingly awesome Rock Star Jeans.) All-in-all it was quite a wonderful holiday! I was plesantly surprised and super happy with everything I got and Love was blown away by his drafting table. He never expected it. At all. Made for a nice day. I hope everyone else had a great holiday season as well!

Christmas Eve at Disney
Ok, I've spent most of today going through my massive collection of photos from Christmas Eve at the Magic Kingdom and put them in photo galleries. There's shots of Main Street, the Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian Resort, shots taken from the front of the monorail, and nighttime shots. There's even a cool panorama that I tried out for the first time (and will be sure to use again in the future!) We were there from around 10:30am until around 10:30pm. I wore my Mickey Ear Santa Hat all day which was fun. I got that last year during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party last year so I was glad I had a chance to wear it again this year. We got our picture taken quite a few times which was nice (and fun) including with Donald Duck and Robin Hood. I picked up a cool Mickey and Minnie christmas ornament because all the christmas stuff was 30% off. (Which was amazing. WDW never has sales.) It'll be a nice memento in future years for our trip over there. Love and I with Donald Duck We had one day left on our passes from this summer - a multi-day pass deal for Floridians - so we figured we might as well use it and what better day to go and enjoy the magic of Disney? It was a really nice day and it was fun to have a day just for ourselves. So check out the photo galleries. You can also check out my complete Disney gallery listing here or my complete photo gallery listing here. Maybe tomorrow I'll work on updating Christmas Day itself and what we all got. (Some nice stuff weeeeee!) I'm burnt out on sorting/formatting photos right now. *laughs* TTFN!

Busy, Busy, Busy!
I've been so busy for days now. Friday shopping all day (and night) for everyone, Saturday at WDW, Sunday at Love's family and then mine, Monday running around getting stuff done....whew! I haven't had any time to really be at my computer at all since last week. I don't have time for a full update and I still have a few hundred photos from WDW to sort through and resize, so this is just kind of a holder post. Hope everyone had a really nice weekend. I'll leave you with a photo just to hold you over. (Click photo for larger image.) Holiday Wishes Fireworks at Cinderella's Castle Walt Disney World, Christmas Eve 2005 More later!
