Thanksgiving, Weekend Recap & Dancing Lights
Thursday, we drove up to Love's cousin's house and had our first of two family dinners there. Got to see his cousin's new baby boy. (Her first.) Had a bunch of food and then had to bow out and head to the next location - my Nanny's. (Nanny is what we call my maternal grandmother.) Love ate another round of turkey, but I couldn't do it. Did have some of my mom's delicious pumpkin pie though. Yum. I look forward all year to it. (She even makes a second pie just for me to take home.) Got a chance to look through the photos from my sister's wedding too. They came out pretty nice. I look pretty decent in most of mine as well.
Friday there was no crazy Black Friday shopping for us. We're too broke. We did run out later in the afternoon to Costco to make an exchange and hit a couple other places for little, needed items. (Like trash bags.) I also finished up my secret santa swap that day. *grins*
With all the days off, we ended up watching a bunch of movies. In sum: The Breakup? Eh. Not really great. American Dreamz? Funny but only for how much it's a spoof of American Idol and Dubya. Thank you for Smoking? Funny but strange.
Saturday we decided to get crazy and our friend Rand, Love and I went out to MGM in the afternoon/evening to catch the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights. Every year they dress up the residential streets of the backlot area with about five million lights. This year, they decided to make them "dance" to music from the Trans Siberian Orchestra. There are two different two minute shows about every 20 minutes. It's really cool.
There's about fifteen pictures I took that you can see
HERE. Also, there's a cool
PANORAMA.
And...! I even took two videos. Find them
HERE. Each is a little over two minutes long. And each is a different piece of music. They had two unique shows. Very, very cool.
Sunday Love had to take our friend Rand to the airport really early because he had to fly out to Hawaii for a business trip. Poor guy, hu? All expenses paid to spend a week in Hawaii? We feel terrible for him.
So...that's bee my extended weekend. I've also been spending an obscene amount of time on the
Holiday Wishes LJ community. You post your wishlist (mine is
here) and then go through and see what you can grant from other people's. It's amazing how many things you can do without spending much - if any - money. I've sent out about 20 cards, made around 150 icons for people, gave more book/movie/author/music recommendations then I can count, offered recipes, am working on making some cd's (with a borrowed burner since mine is dead and hasn't been replaced yet) and more. If I can't grant something, then I try to at least leave a nice comment. I tell you, it feels damned good to spread cheer like that. And what goes around, comes around because I've had a beautiful response to my own wishlist. It's a good karma thing, you know?
If you have some time, browse through. See if there's anything you have that someone might appreciate.
Guess that about wraps it up for the moment. Check out the
photos and videos of the lights though. You'll enjoy it.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
