There are people on
the net that
have nothing better to do with their time then be nasty
to other
people online. They post rude comments, spend hours a
day talking
about sites they hate so much, that they well, spend
hours a day
talking about them. (lame) They mock the owners and
posters for
their opinions and their right to free speech. They
expect everyone
to fit into their narrow-minded little world view or
else they throw
a temper tantrum.
To these people I say
grow up.
Here's a bit of info
people...the
web is a HUGE place. If you don't like what I say here,
or who I am,
or what I do, or talk about, or what I look like, or
the color of my
hair, or whatever asinine thing you dwell on, go
somewhere else.
It's really, really easy. Honest. You just click the
little "x" in
the corner of your browser and *poof* the offending,
big, mean and
nasty site has disappeared.
I pay for this site.
It's mine.
That means I can use it for whatever the hell I want
to. Don't like
it if I'm bitching about something in my life? Oh
fucking well. Go
somewhere else. Think I'm stupid for expressing my
thoughts? Too
fucking bad, don't read them. Somewhere along the line,
someone
forgot this simple fact: Live and let live Don't
like me,
cool, fine, whatever, I don't care. This journal
is NOT for
you. It's for me. I'm not in it for popularity or fame
or anything
stupid like that. I write it because I need to write
and express
myself and get things out of my head sometimes. So read
or don't, it
doesn't matter, but don't waste my time (or yours)
bitching about
it.

Purple Bridesmaid Ok, not that she's purple, but her jewelry is. I finally managed to complete the single largest order I've ever received. And it only took me like two months. (Hey, in my defense, they were out of stock of a key crystal for almost a month. And in more defense, I had to make each of the eight necklaces unique. Which was actually pretty damned challenging.)
The order, in total was eight Swarovski crystal necklaces, 16" each, all different, all featuring the really expensive cube cut of crystal PLUS eight additional pairs of earrings which I made as four unique styles, two pairs of each.
It was a huge undertaking.
They're going to be gifts for bridesmaids and I tell you, she got an awesome deal on it. It took way more time than I would have believed possible to make them. Something about that large of a project, with that many unique patterns that all needed to be complimentary to each other and yet different...I don't know. It was just hard. If I were to do it again, I'd charge much more. Heh.
Anyway though, I did like how, in the end, they all came out so I thought I'd share the artsy photo of all eight necklaces together. They're going to get packaged up and shipped off this week and it's like giving up a child. I tell you, a labor of love went into them. (All the more reason I really hope she and her bridesmaids love them.)
Whew. Happy that's done. Now onto the next bridesmaid order. (Which, at the moment is only one necklace and pair of earrings, but which, if she likes will be two more of each.) Glutton for punishment I am, you too can get something from PhoenixFire Designs ...OR.... (and here's the punishment part), I too can take your custom order from an idea into reality. Just like this was. Feel free to let me know. (And don't forget about Mom for Mother's Day or jewelry for Prom!)
Happy Birthday Mika! We adopted Mika on April 27, 2003. She was three when we adopted her. It's hard to believe she's been with us for FOUR YEARS now! Since I have no way of knowing her actual birthday, her adoption day has become her birthday. She's now seven years old. And tubbier than ever (despite being on a diet for the past three years.) Still, she's a wonderful addition to our home and loves to love.
She's come a long way since she was the abandoned kitty at the SPCA. So Happy Birthday to Mika! Here's to many more years together!
Year of a Million Dreams Disney is running a celebration right now called, "Year of a Million Dreams." They're giving aways a ton of prizes to people who visit their theme parks. Alternately, you can also enter by sending in a post card. Well, as you guys know, I am a WDW Passholder and I've been there about a dozen times since the promotion started last October. It's a total random drawing and so far - nada. I haven't won anything. I've never even seen them give a prize to someone. (I have seen people walking around with prizes they won earlier in the day but not as the prizes are being awarded.) So I heard that people were pretty easily winning some of the smaller prizes through the mail-in. And I thought, why not?
So I've sent off maybe six to eight postcards at random and infrequent times (basically whenever I remember to drop one off in the outgoing mailbox.) Yesterday morning, I wake up to someone knocking on my door. When I get there, it's the mailman. (He is such a nice and happy guy.) Anyway, he's got a certified box for me. And it's from Walt Disney World!! Inside is a pair of the you-can-only-win-them special Year of a Million Dreams Mickey Mouse ears!
Holy crap! I won a prize!
So this is what it feels like to win a contest. Even if it's a small prize, it's still damned cool. And of course, it's got me all excited to go back to Disney. (What doesn't though? ) I was really happy to get this totally cool surprise in the mail though. How fun is that? Man, I love happy, surprise mail!
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Freedom of religion means all religion. You might have heard about the battle that's been waging in court for months now to allow fallen Wiccan soldiers the right to put the symbol of their faith on their grave markers - the same as anyone else gets to. The VA had denied the request which prompted the lawsuit. Thirty-eight other symbols were already allowed, including ironically, one for atheism. But a pentacle? Gasp, shock, horror - no! Can't allow that.
I'm proud to say that has now changed. They were successful in their case and the eleven pending families who merely wanted to honor their family members who died in service to this country (same as those of any other religion) will now be allowed to.
The Wiccan pentacle has been added to the list of emblems allowed in national cemeteries and on government-issued headstones of fallen soldiers, according to a settlement announced Monday.
A settlement between the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Wiccans adds the five-pointed star to the list of "emblems of belief" allowed on VA grave markers.
"This settlement has forced the Bush Administration into acknowledging that there are no second class religions in America, including among our nation's veterans," said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, which represented the Wiccans in the lawsuit.
VA-issued headstones, markers and plaques can be used in any cemetery, whether it is a national one such as Arlington or a private burial ground like that on Circle Sanctuary's property.
I am so happy that this has been resolved. And that at the end of the day, a little more equality has been hard-won. You don't have to be Wiccan to see that it's the correct thing to do. We're talking about honoring a veterans here and our differences shouldn't be a grounds for hatred, but rather tolerance and acceptance. We don't all have to agree, but we can all be mature enough to live and let live and thank these people for their service the same as we do those from any other religion.
It's torture I tell ya! So unfair. Coconut Hut was closed for several months because of some kind of health problem with the owner or relative. (They didn't say. She just put "medical emergency" on the site.) Right around December, I was all set to finally pick up something for myself when it abruptly closed. It opened back up this month and she's running a sale on the Beach Baby Perfume. Normally $15, on sale for $9! That's such a good deal. There are so many scents I covet and at 40% off, it's the best time to get some.
The reason it's torture is that I'm just broke right now and really can't spend cash on it - even if it IS a good sale. Especially when my PayPal account doesn't even have any "buffer" cash in it and the lady who I spoke to last week and verbally confirmed her ordering of a necklace and earrings isn't (a) paying the invoice nor (b) replying to my emails. Bitches!
Why is it that the sale always happens when you have no cash? Sale's only through the end of the month and that doesn't do me any good.
