There are people on
the net that
have nothing better to do with their time then be nasty
to other
people online. They post rude comments, spend hours a
day talking
about sites they hate so much, that they well, spend
hours a day
talking about them. (lame) They mock the owners and
posters for
their opinions and their right to free speech. They
expect everyone
to fit into their narrow-minded little world view or
else they throw
a temper tantrum.
To these people I say
grow up.
Here's a bit of info
people...the
web is a HUGE place. If you don't like what I say here,
or who I am,
or what I do, or talk about, or what I look like, or
the color of my
hair, or whatever asinine thing you dwell on, go
somewhere else.
It's really, really easy. Honest. You just click the
little "x" in
the corner of your browser and *poof* the offending,
big, mean and
nasty site has disappeared.
I pay for this site.
It's mine.
That means I can use it for whatever the hell I want
to. Don't like
it if I'm bitching about something in my life? Oh
fucking well. Go
somewhere else. Think I'm stupid for expressing my
thoughts? Too
fucking bad, don't read them. Somewhere along the line,
someone
forgot this simple fact: Live and let live Don't
like me,
cool, fine, whatever, I don't care. This journal
is NOT for
you. It's for me. I'm not in it for popularity or fame
or anything
stupid like that. I write it because I need to write
and express
myself and get things out of my head sometimes. So read
or don't, it
doesn't matter, but don't waste my time (or yours)
bitching about
it.

Dying Monitor So in the next chapter of "101 MORE Things You Need Money For" turns out after about seven or eight years, my monitor is going bad. Joy of joys. It's had some quirky moments in the past when I thought it might be on it's way out, but it's always managed to rally back. It's been a very good monitor to me for a long time now. And even though as a 17" CRT it's woefully outdated by current standards, I still think it's nice and am still happy with it's performance.
Problem is, things only last so long. Particularly when they're electronics. And especially when they are ones you rely on so very heavily. (That crappy old boombox from the 80's in the back of your closet? It'll outlast cockroaches. Why? Because it's not mission-critical for your daily life.)
Yup, it's dying. Keeps acting like it's turning off but not really. It kinda flashes like the image is rushing to the middle of the screen and fading off like it does when you turn it off but instead, it's just a flicker and it takes a few seconds to come back to normal. Hard to describe but definitely "the end is near" warning sign. (Oh and when you DO turn it off on purpose, it makes weird pinging type noises that you know just can't be good.)
Found a nice 17" LCD on newegg.com after reading some reviews on PCWorld.com about monitors. (Click me to see the item!) It's $204 plus shipping. Which isn't a bad price. But... it IS $200 more dollars then I currently have for spending on a monitor. Totally blows. I'm STILL waiting on an order that would get me 2/3 of that amount, but at this point, I'm not counting on it. (Seeing as she contacted me on the 9th to say she wanted to order the items and has been sitting on her duff ever since.) If she DOES order it though, I'd only need about $60 more to pick it up. Anyone want to buy some jewelery? *bats eyes* The funny thing is that the 19" version is only $219 vs $204 but when you factor in shipping, it brings the total to more like $240. (19" version)
I think it's funny that when I looked for reviews of monitors, the categories include things like "30 inch wide-screen." Damn that's crazy. (For your computer? My living room TV is only a 27" non-wide screen!) I'm not looking for anything nearly so fancy. It has to have an awesome refresh rate though because monitors and I have issues seeing eye-to-eye many times but the one I linked seems to be a great option for ease of on-screen reading. The 17" LCD category was the lowest-end they had reviews for! How amusing is that? Still, it'd be plenty for me. So now I just need to come up with the fundage for one. Preferably, you know, before mine takes the final swan dive. PC's don't really work as well sans screens, you know?
Anyway, that's the newest news. Or lack thereof. No big plans for the holiday weekend. (I'd say we could hit Disney but...no passes anymore.) Probably will try to see Pirates 3 because, "Yo, ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me..." I mean it IS PotC afterall! Beyond that, nothing much going on.
Hope everyone had a nice week and has a great weekend! Cross your fingers that the order comes in and my monitor holds out!
An Ant-Free Desk & The Return Of Entries I wanted to post the other day, but I had a sudden invasion by teeny "sugar ants" on my desk. I don't know the technical name for them, but that's what most people around here call them. They're almost microscopic they're so small and they'll get into everything including sealed Tupperware containers and such. Anyway, my desk is right next to the window and I guess they decided to come in for a visit. There was nothing on my desk for them but once they showed up, they didn't want to leave. I can't put into words how much I loath ants. Were it in my power to remove every ant from the planet forever, I would. I hate them with a fiery passion. Anyway, so yesterday, I spent hours cleaning off every last thing from my desk surface with many pauses to die from dust inhalation. Never found anything that drew their attention but they kept coming so I went to Lowe's and got some of the sugar bait stuff. You put a couple drops down on piece of cardboard or tinfoil and they come to it in swarms, carry it off and then kill the queen and die. It's fabulous. But it meant I couldn't stand to be at my desk at all yesterday because they came in renewed numbers for the poison.
This morning though, they're gone. Mwahaha! To quote Office Space's soundtrack, "Die mother fuckers, die mother fuckers, die!" And thus, the return to the computer is possible. (I didn't even get to read my friends list or blogs or anything yesterday because first there was the cleaning and then there was the ants. Brr. Gross.)
So let's catch up from the weekend posts I had wanted to write earlier...
Saturday - It's Like Riding A Bike I was very worried that riding a bike did not actually count in the expression. What if riding a bike wasn't "just like riding a bike" and turns out you DO forget how to do it afterall? It's been 15 or 16 years since I've been on a bike and let me tell you, I was a little nervous as I walked into the bike shop. I wanted to get an idea of what's out there since Love's birthday gift to me is a bike of my choosing. The guy at the store was very helpful and said I should ride around the parking lot for a bit to see if I liked the model he was showing me. I expressed my concerns about it being so long and turns out that's a very common experience. Rode bikes as kids, haven't in years, afraid of falling on one's ass and making a fool of one's self... Found out a few things though.
You actually do remember how to ride a bike. Sure it felt awkward at first but it also felt familiar and after a few minutes, it was like, "Oh yeah, I remember this!"
It's more fun than I remembered to ride a bike. I remember I enjoyed it back then but turns out, even just riding in the parking lot? Fun now too.
Bikes are WAY more expensive than I thought.
I've only been to one bike store and one Sports Authority (who had a total of ONE hybrid style bike, and it was a man's frame and about two sizes too big for me) but man, this may be harder then I thought in terms of affording one I want to get. The one I looked at was really nice. And $380. Which sucks because if it were less, I totally would have taken it home that very day. But it's around $100 more then I was going to spend. Problem is, people pretty much only have mountain style bikes and that is not at all what I want. I want the hybrid style and dammit, I'm not going to get something I don't really want just to get something, you know? So I need to look more and see what I can find. I really want a bike now though. After riding it, I'm excited about it.
Sunday - WDW For The Last Time Sunday was the last day of our WDW passes. We went out for the afternoon just to get in one lat visit. I am so totally bummed. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed being able to go out and have that to look forward to. It was so nice to know that there was a wonderful day out waiting for me whenever I wanted it. Granted it's getting hot now and we never go in the summer anyway, but to have to let the passes go is a real heartbreaker. I wish we could renew instead of waiting until who knows when to get them again (seeing as it took like four years for us to get them again from the last time we had passes) because it'd save us $70 on two tickets in renewal discounts. Still, it's $400ish bucks to renew and it's just not possible right now. I was joking with Love the other night about it in a Sally Struthers infomercial voice:
For about a dollar a day, you can help a needy woman enjoy the beauty of Disney for an entire year. Your donation can bring smiles, laughs and good times to these people. When you sign-up, we'll send you a photo and a story so you can see who your money is helping. Please, won't you help by sending money today?
Honestly, it was nice to have simply because there's not a lot I have to look forward to on the day-to-day. I pretty much don't leave the apartment five days of the week, spend a lot of time alone and lonely, and we never can afford to do a lot of things. A day out at Disney when your tickets are paid for already is surprisingly cheap. Costs more to do things around town then being in the Happiest Place On Earth. So it was a wonderful thing to be able to look forward to, you know? Hopefully we'll eventually be able to get passes again. It probably won't be anytime soon though. I just enjoy it so much it's a bummer to have to know it's out of my reach for the foreseeable future.
Anyway.... I think I've made this entry long enough at this point. Oh! A thanks to someone for the Yoga RX book that arrived on Saturday. There was only the seller's return information so I don't know whom to thank but I know it was on my amazon list so it must have been a birthday surprise. I'm sorry I can't thank you personally, but I don't know who it was from. So thank you whoever you are!
Oh yeah and I think I might be getting a cold. I've had a scratchy/itchy throat for a couple days now and today it's sore. Bah. I hope not. I hate colds and dammit, I don't want one.
