~ A Tail of Two Kitties ~

Mika

Mika (mee-ka) came to us April 27, 2003 from the SPCA. I wasn't planning on getting another kitty right then (it was only a week after I lost Kush-ka to cancer) but I fell in love when I saw her. I had gone in just "to look." She came home with me that day.

Mika was three when we adopted her. Her previous owners didn't want to take her with them when they moved. (What kind of lame excuse is that?) She is a beautiful tiger-striped tabby with the most lovely spring green eyes. She's a large cat - 15lbs when we adopted her and two years of good love and good food is a little too plump at 17lbs.

She's a strange one, but I love her and she's definitely my cat. She knows what she wants, when she wants it and doesn't think twice to go get it. She drinks from the sink and tub and eats anything that's not nailed down (and some things that are.) But she's sweet and, at the end of the day, I'm so glad I brought her home with me.

Gracie

Gracie was unexpected. We had debated getting a second cat for Mika because we thought she might enjoy the company. Unlike Kush who despised other cats (including my mom's two cats that he grew up with), I thought Mika might do well with a friend. We were in PetSmart getting some food when we stopped and browsed at the kitties. My Love fell in love with this mangy, small, malnourished little grey cat. She came home with us the next day.

To be honest, at first I didn't see the appeal. But once we all got used to her - Mika and myself included - she's adorable. Tiny and petite, she's only 7lbs. She was adopted August 2003. She was a stray rescue and had four kittens when she was found. (All found homes.) She's little and cute and her meow is this funny little peep. She's hyper and klutzy and she loves to be the center of attention at all times.
