So last night she was really bad and was up all night going to the litterbox. This morning, there was blood again in the urine. So I got up early and called the vet’s office first thing. We brought her in at 9am. Vet looked at her and felt her abdomen and suggested that we leave her for a few hours to let them give her fluids again. Her poor bladder was so small and was having spasms as a result of her straining and trying to pee. He thought if we could fill her up a little, besides just helping prevent dehydration, she could lessen the spasms and maybe relax a little. To further aid in relaxing, he gave us some anti-anxiety pills to give her every 12 hours. Since she’s so anxious and worked up, she’s not sleeping. And if she doesn’t rest, she’s just going to keep making herself worse.<\/p>\n
He said we can wait until next week to do the x-rays and sonogram. He had to catch a plane this morning and even if he did it today, there’s nothing further we could do anyway. She’s still passing urine so she’s not in any immediate, life-threatening danger, and the fluids and the medication should help ease her through the weekend.<\/p>\n
So she’s home now and I’ve pilled her. She seems a little more relaxed already so I’m hoping she’ll just sleep awhile and calm down. It’s really the best thing – for both of us! I got about 3 hours of sleep or so last night so we both need to chill. It’s not a solution since we still need to know what’s wrong and what’s at the root of the problem, but it at least gives us a calmer weekend and a chance to try to enjoy our Christmas a little more.<\/p>\n
Oh and the vet was nice; he only charged us $21 for the pills today. Because we were just in on Wednesday, no exam fee, no boarding fee, no fee for the fluids, etc. He said he didn’t want to ruin our Christmas, so that was really nice and I really appreciated it.<\/p>\n
Anyway, that’s the update. Still need to figure out where to come up with $350, but I’ll worry about that next week.
