So this morning Love got a ride into work from a friend. I got up early, got ready and called AAA. They came out, picked up the Element and dropped it back off at the repair shop. I got to work about 45 minutes late due to waiting for AAA to arrive.
They had the car all day. And now their best guess is that the parts work fine, BUT, they suspect there is a problem in the computer. They’re saying they think the car’s computer is intermittently not providing enough power to the condenser fan, which causes the noise and then the compressor to start blowing hot air. I don’t know that I believe them at this point, because in talking to people on the Honda Element Owner’s Forum, I’m hearing that a lot of what they told me so far is either incorrect, sensationalist or just plain wrong.
Either way, we’ve basically paid $1,600 for A/C and still don’t have working A/C.
Wednesday I have an appointment with the health department (Pill supply) so I’ll head up early, go to Mom’s and we’ll drop it off at a Honda dealership to have them run a diagnostic. See what THEY say about the work done so far, the status of the car and what needs doing about it all.
We also plan on trying to dispute the charges for the repair with the credit card company because we’ve paid for repairs on a car and still can’t use it. That’s just not acceptable. If they were incapable of completing the repair, they shouldn’t have started it in the first place!
So…that’s where we’re at now. Supposedly we can drive it but just not with the A/C. And of course, it’s not only July in Florida, but with the passenger window still manually wedged up until we get the $100 part to fix it, we can’t even roll down both windows right now. Unbelievable.
I was so stressed and anxious last night I had to take one of my few remaining lorazepams just so I could relax enough to sleep. I seriously though I was going to have a panic attack I was so upset. I haven’t taken one in months – the last time was shortly after Rand’s death. (Which, by the way, his birthday is coming up on the 30th of this month. Ugh.)
This has been just such a damned nightmare.
