Oh what a strange weekend it has been. I type this on my iPod in a bed and breakfast in St. Augustine. This was supposed to be the culmination of a fun-filled weekend for Love’s birthday. But things haven’t exactly gone as planned.
Friday we started with the Dali Museum in St. Pete. That went ok but the plan to eat at the cafe went nowhere when neither of us wanted artichoke omelets. Ew.
Saturday we planned on Disney. I had reservations for the Crystal Palace for lunch even. But I woke up that morning violently ill. Throwing up and the whole works. By the time I felt well enough to leave it was like 1:30pm. Our reservations were for 2:25pm and it takes about an hour and half to get there and get in the park. They had no later times so I canceled. Then we hit I-275 and it’s just wall of traffic. At this point we’re both like “clearly we are not meant to go to Disney” and went to Ikea instead since we were in that direction anyway.
So Sunday was our big overnight in St. Augustine. We got off to a slightly late start and left like 10:30ish. Should take about 3.5 hours to get there. We arrived after 3:30pm. Seriously over FIVE hours. First we hit half hour backup in Orlando. Then we realized a huge problem with our drive today: Daytona 500. We had 12 miles to our exit and hit a parking lot. Seriously, we spent the next 2 hours just inching forward.
We got here, checked in and went for a walk. Found a neat pedestrian street with shops and found he Fort. (Which was pretty cool actually though it was closed so we couldn’t go inside. We plan on hitting it tomorrow before we leave.)
It was getting chilly as the sun was going down and I wanted my hoodie. Came back for it and went back out…and everything was closed. Seriously it was like 7pm and the while place was dead. Guess he oldest city in America is like old people and it goes to bed with the sun.
We came back to the room and tried to watch a DVD. We brought The Social Network with us from Netflix. Got like an hour into it and….skip skip skip stutter. Tried cleaning it but nope. So we went downstairs where they have a DVD library. Picked out a couple. First one (Julie & Julia) which we spent 15 minutes trying to get the DVD player to play. Eventually we gave up and got The 40 Year Old Virgon to play. After our weekend we needed a laugh.
Love and I are laughing at how silly and kinda pathetic this has all been and we’re having fun just for how not fun this has been. If nothing else it’s and adventure.
Oh well. That’s the weekend so far. Tomorrow we head home and we’ll laugh about it. But yeah…it’s been well interesting. Lol
