So I’m blind. Totally myopic and without my glasses, I can’t do anything more than 6″ in front of my face. Today I had errands to run. One of them was depositing the cash from the sale of the couch last night into the bank. The bank requires you to remove sunglasses when entering. So I switched out of my sunglasses to regular ones, made my transaction and walked out. As I left, I switched back to sunglasses. This IS Florida after all and it’s very bright outside.
I get in my car and decide to hop over to Target which is in the next plaza over. I wanted to check if they had any Conversation Hearts on clearance as I had completely forgotten to snag any this year. I am inside Target, trying to grab my glasses case to switch back to regular ones….and I can’t find the case.
I drive back to the bank and look in the parking lot. Go in and talk to the teller. Can’t find them anywhere, no one has seen them. Go back out to the parking lot. Crawl around on my hands and knees looking under cars. Still nowhere. Ask a lady parked in a car nearby. She hasn’t seen them. Tear through my purse and car again. Still no go. Head back into bank, still nothing. Teller takes my cell number in case they turn up. Head into building next door to bank, find people in an open doorway. Ask if they found a glasses case. SUCCESS! They did! A guy saw them in the road and snagged them before a car would have run them over.
I can’t tell you how relieved I was. Besides the fact I can’t function without my glasses and ignoring the fact they’re expensive to replace, they’re also a special order lens and take a week to be made. I thanked the man profusely and told him he was my hero today. Thank you anonymous man at the bank parking lot. You saved my butt!
(I figure what happened was as I switched back to sunglasses exiting the bank, I missed sliding the case into my purse and instead it fell down and I totally didn’t notice. I switch between my sunglasses and regular glasses many, many times throughout the day so it’s just a habit motion. I have no idea how I missed my bag but based on where he found them, that’s what makes sense.)
I love the reaction lenses in my spare glasses… although I just wish they’d react a bit quicker when going from sun to indoors.
I think the transition types are neat but they won’t work in a car through glass so I’d still need sunglasses for driving. It’d be a lot easier walking around Disney though without having to constantly change back-and-forth when entering and exiting attractions, that’s for sure!
I never knew banks required you to remove sunglasses when you enter… I guess for security reasons… Did they at least let you keep them on when you didn’t have your regular glasses?
I don’t know. There’s a big sign when you come in to remove hats and sunglasses.
