Last year, Love had a rock strike his windshield – twice. It chipped and eventually cracked and the crack quickly spread across most of the glass. So he had to have it replaced. Here in Florida, windshield repair/replacement is free through your insurance and your insurance company cannot raise your rates as a result of such repair/replacement.
Well, ever since, it's always been noisy. It "squeaks" at high speed or in high winds (like on the highway or interstate) and it started leaking on the inside passenger side. We've been meaning to call about getting it fixed but just kept forgetting. Last week Love finally remembered to call and the guy came this morning.
Turns out the last guy who did it totally screwed it up. Broke the clips holding it, water had gotten in (as we knew it had) and rusted part of it, and the whole thing was just not structurally sound. The guy apologized up-and-down for the previous work done and said unfortunately, the installer who did it the first time screwed up every single replacement he did. Nice. The guy also said that it was a good thing we hadn't gotten into an accident with it in that condition. Well that's comforting!
So he sanded out the rust and primed it, put in new clips and got the whole thing back to the way it should be. It's just crazy to think how badly the first guy screwed it up. We didn't pick the company, the insurance company did but man…I guess the lesson here is if you have ANY problems or issues with a replacement, have it looked at right away. They may have totally done it wrong!
