Another dreary day out today. Lots of thunderstorms and rain. It's lightened up now so it's just very overcast and drizzling but it was absolutely pouring this morning. Still not as bad as last week's storms but still, quite a heavy downpour. The roads were all flooded again when I came in. There's still a lot of standing water around from last week's storms so it's kinda just adding to an already saturated area, you know?
Tomorrow is my day off and I called and scheduled an appointment for Mika at the vet. Noticed the other day her one "canine" tooth was poking out kinda crooked. One has always been more visible than the other but it was weirdly pointed. So I moved her jowl where her whiskers are rooted and her whole gum right around the "fang" is a big, bulbous swollen mess. It's because it's so swollen that's causing the fang to point a little off center. That's definitely not good.
I'm worried because it's REALLY swollen. She's about 10-going-on-11 and usually dental infections, abscesses, etc. require extraction. Which is done under anesthesia. And beside the fact I can't afford hundreds or thousands of dollars of surgery (I'm still paying back Gracie's vet bills from December!), the older the animal, the more risk with anesthesia. But, dental problems in senior cats and dogs, if left untreated, can kill them. So of course, NOT doing anything isn't an option.
I'm just really worried what the prognosis is going to be. She's been acting perfectly fine and eating as much as ever so I don't think it's too painful, but still. The swelling is just extreme and that can't be good. I have no idea how long it's been this way either. I only noticed it because, like I said, I realized her fang was crooked. Most cats don't like you looking in their mouth and Mika is no exception.
So, all-in-all, a kinda downer, dreary day.
