Ok, so the good news is that I DID get my 3-month Lupron shot today. The bad news is that it took over two hours and two offices (in completely opposite direction!) to get it.
I drove up to the office by my Mom. (About 30 minutes north of home.) My appointment was 1:15pm. I sat in the waiting room until about 1:40pm. Then I went into the room. I sat there for awhile, got my blood pressure taken (seriously you don’t want to know. Oh, you do? Alright, here goes don’t judge me 160/100 Yeah…Ouch.) So then I waited. And waited. And waited. By about 2:30pm I was starting to think they forgot about me.
The nurse came in and apologized. Apparently she put my chart in the wrong place so the doctor didn’t realize I was waiting. Should only be a few more minutes. She took my blood pressure again. 158/98. Yeah, still not better. (Well, what do you want? I was stressed from waiting forever at that point!)
About ten minutes later she comes back in. And she says I’m really going to hate her now. Apparently, they had “follow-up” as the reason for today’s visit. The real reason of course was my shot. But my shot was sitting in the other office next to the hospital. (Closer to my home; about 15 minutes in the opposite direction of my Mom’s.) They might need me to come back tomorrow. I mentioned it was not far out of my way home – could I just go there for the shot? She wasn’t sure so she’d find out.
Turns out, yeah they could do that. So I waited another ten minutes or so to meet with the doctor – because he was here at THIS location. He felt my stomach and said he thinks we have had some shrinkage so far already. (Yes, the tumors are so big they can be felt easily through my skin.) He’s pleased with the progress. Good news!
What he wasn’t pleased with was my blood pressure. Bad news! He’s afraid I’m going to have a stroke. I told him it’s stress. (Being denied for help paying off the bills that amount to about twice your yearly annual salary plus your father-in-law having quadruple bypass AND your mom being in the ER for severe food poisoning will, well, stress a person out a bit.) He says it’s too high even for stress. (I still say he has no clue the amount of stress I’m under…)
So he called in a prescription for me to help with my blood pressure. Now I’m all afraid I’m going to be lightheaded, dizzy, passing out crap from it but we’ll see how it goes I guess. He wants to see me next Friday to see if there is improvement in the blood pressure. *sigh*
I left there (at like 3:15pm) and headed down to the SECOND office location. Peed in the cup (seriously people, I’m NOT pregnant! It’s just a TOO-MAH. Ha.) and then got my shot. OW. Still hurt just as bad this time. They actually gave it to me in the opposite hip from the last time. It’s apparently a powder they mix up so yeah, it burns….
Finally got out of the SECOND office around 4pm. The pharmacy called and they won’t have my script in stock until tomorrow morning so I headed home instead.
It’s been a loooong day. But now I officially have the 90-day Lupron shot in me. Scary. But, I asked if I should expect any weird surge or worsening of side effects since it’s another dose and he said no. That I’ve already had the surge of side effects and if the femhrt is helping now (which it is) it still will continue to. Of course, this gives me a total of FOUR months of shot in me but..hey, just means more shrinkage. (And longer menopause. Oh well. Good with the bad.)
Anyway, that’s my day today and the latest uterine update from here. Now it’s pouring out, the cats are overdue for dinner and I need a snack until Love comes home. So out for now.
Edit to add: Oh and for those keeping track: Office visit for today? $236
