Had a DELICIOUS dinner tonight. Decided like most Americans, we needed a steak for our holiday weekend. We lack a BBQ (3rd floor apartment with strict fire code prohibiting them) but, we can still cook one up in the oven.
So we headed over to Whole Foods. The last two times we went there, we were able to pick up a really yummy fillet for $5.99 that was thick enough to half and share. Well, today, no petite fillets. Just GIANT ones (with equally giant prices.) Boo. We both had our hearts set though on a yummy, beefy treat so I said we should leave Whole Foods and trek to Fresh Market instead. They have good beef too and it’s not like we were doing anything else for the day.
So off to Fresh Market we went. They DID have some petite fillets (yay!) though not many. Everyone was picked over on steaks for the holiday. (See? Told you we weren’t alone in this idea!) But we found a nice one (at a very reasonable price too; comparable to the super market’s price but miles away in quality.) and dessert and went on home.
It was a thick cut so we halved it and I pounded it a bit (tenderized) though I could tell it was like butter. A little seasoning and off into the oven. Half hour later…heaven! Man, it was SO tender. Just melted. And it was SO worth hitting a second store to get! It TOTALLY hit the spot and was well worth the mini adventure in obtaining it.
Love and I were totally fappy (fat and happy) this evening and it made for a tasty – if rather boring! – Labor Day weekend. 🙂
