So, even though the debt started as $1,200 and it’s down to $930 and I’ve been paying every month, apparently the “fact” that so long as you pay they can’t send you to collections is an urban myth. Every single person I’ve ever talked to both in person and online said just pay it each month a little at a time but that doesn’t work.
Fucking wonderful. Clearly, I don’t have $930 to pay them off. I worked so fucking hard to get my credit back to something above worst in the world and now, despite the fact I’m actively paying it each month, too damned bad. I ran the numbers and the absolute most I can get back on income tax return is like $400. So I can’t even use that to pay my bill off. And of course, this is only ONE of like 12 fucking bills I pay every month so if one is heading into collection, I’m guessing the rest will soon too.
What the fuck is the point of all of this?? Why do I ever hope for anything better in life because it’s just always going to shit right on my head.
Sorry things are going sideways.. I’m having the same problems with health bills. It’s to the point were 8000.00 of our own money needs to be spent before insurance pays anything. Why should approximately one fifth of our disposable income have to be spent, when we have insurance? So of course, some things just can’t be paid. It just seems impossible to keep up.
I hope things work out for the positive some how for you miss m.
Yes, they can send the bills to collection. There’s nothing you can do about that, short of declaring bankruptcy. Laws on bankruptcy vary somewhat by state, and I don’t know what they are in Florida.
The US seriously needs to get into gear with some kind of National Health system! I might complain about ours, but at least we don’t end up with massive bills to pay afterwards because it is all paid for by our tax.
Do you think it would help to contact everyone you’re paying bills to and letting them know what’s up? If they know you have a plan they might agree to smaller payments each month. I don’t know. But getting everything owed over a longer time than planned has to beat getting nothing because you’re bankrupt…
I hope everything works out somehow.
