As we left John’s Pass on Friday, a cool wind started to blow. It was the herald of our refreshing touch of winter this weekend.
Friday night brought first rain, then crazy, strong winds. Living in Florida, that’s how you know a front is moving in; it always comes in on the wind. We woke up Saturday to chilly temps – a high of only 64F (18C) – which was a massive break from the terribly warm season we’ve been having. To put it in perspective, one Saturday prior it was 82F (28C) and had even gotten as high as 84F (29C) during the week.
It’s been a terribly unseasonable Winter.
Saturday night, it was even cooler and Sunday afternoon I checked and it was only 51F (11C) at that time! Brr! We actually changed out of our summer-weight coverlet to a full comforter for the first time all season. Tonight there is a freeze warning with forecasts in my area for 34F (1C). Places North of the Tampa Bay Area will be colder still.
I’ve been enjoying it. It’s nice to wear pants and a sweater – and even a jacket! – for a few days. A nice change from the overly warm weather. I know most people would be thrilled to “suffer” through weather in the upper 70’s-to-low-80’s in the Winter but coming on the heels of a record hot, scorching summer…well, I was ready for a break. This is only the second truly cold spell we’ve had this season. And sadly, it will most likely be the last.
Still, I’m taking advantage of it with a homemade chicken pot pie cooking along in the 400F oven which for tonight’s dinner which will help warm us up on this cold evening. Nights like this, it’s nice to run the oven instead of having it compete with the air conditioning!
