So I’m still learning my camera. Going to a DSLR definitely means some changes in how I approach shooting pics. And I’m still trying to wrangle out the shots I want, but I’m getting better. Last night, I picked up a small thing of flowers when I was at Target to give myself something to experiment with photographing. I’ve always had a great love of macro photography, so I picked some flowers that I thought were (a) beautifully detailed and (b) a vibrant color.
Here’s a few of the shots I took. I’m kind of anti-post edit work (controversial stance, I know) so aside from resizing and watermarking, these are untouched.

Feedback appreciated!
I am a fan of centering, but mayhaps try more experimentation when it comes to positioning in the frame and where you choose focus.
I like them all, but the top one is my favorite. I love the contrast between the colors of the flower and the coldness of the background. I wish more of the petals on the left side had focus, but their softness doesn’t take away from my enjoyment of the picture.
I took a range of shots and I tried to show a few examples from the various types. Some are dead-on, some off-center and some a little of both. The trick with the lens is finding the sweet spot of the focus – it can be EXCEPTIONALLY narrow! OMG, I got some photos where just the tiniest sliver of the edge of the petal was in focus and nothing else. Crazy. So it’s been a lot of experimentation to try and learn how to get what I was going for. I took like 175 photos or something so this was just a quick look at some that seemed nice. ๐
Very beautiful! Striking colours too ๐
I’m all for ignoring the rules of photography and going with what looks great ๐
Thanks! I just wanted to experiment and just see how they came out. Actually took another round last night as well to try out a few other things so I have to upload those to the pc and see how they came out. It’s fun just taking pictures for fun, you know? ๐
