Living in Florida, on the world-famous Suncoast with beaches like Clearwater Beach, St. Petersburg, and more in my backyard, images of oil coated waves and shorelines are especially chilling. Shots of oil in the spray of a wave break are sickening. And images of the devastation and scale of the impact of BP’s oil spill are heartbreaking.
It’s not pleasant but you should look at the images here of Orange Beach, Alabama. Especially those about halfway down the page showing the oil in the waves and sand.
This is what our dependence on fossil fuels has wrought. And this needs to be our wake-up call that we don’t need more drilling; we need to make the move away from oil – and now.
