The It's About Damned Time You Posted Recap Of WDWSo I haven't been exactly Ms. Quick Post about recapping the weekend. Yeah, yeah, I know. Slacker. I've updated a few things on my
Disney Pages with more to come though.
Let's see...So Saturday we got up early (it's just wrong for an alarm to go off at 6:30am on a Saturday, so very wrong) because we wanted to get a headstart on the day. The park was only open until 9pm and we wanted to hit both Epcot and the Magic Kingdom and wanted to make sure we had enough time to do what we wanted.
So in our way-cool stylin' (*yeah right*) minivan we borrowed (our car can't make the 90-odd miles out to Orlando, let alone the return 90-odd miles) we headed out a little after 8am. For once, Love was the tardy one and I was waiting on him to finish getting ready.
We arrived around 9:30am - about a half hour after the park opened. Super good for us. We've been known to stroll in there around lunchtime before. (Though granted, in those days, we had seasonal passes so we weren't paying per day.) First we hit Epcot. We wanted to ride the new attraction,
Soarin' that came in from Disneyland in California. Lines have been crazy for it so we wanted to hit it first. Turns out, Epcot was really not busy (yet, it could have gotten busier later) and we got in on the ride in about 10 minutes.
It was freakin' awesome.
For those who don't know,
Soarin' is like a really large Imax movie screen but they lift rows of seats up into the air so your feet dangle. And it's like flying over this amazing scenery of California. They blow wind onto you, they have scents - like orange when you pass over groves and pine when you go through trees - and they tilt your row to mimic the motions of the flyover on the screen. It's so unbelievably fun. I was worried because I'm terrified of heights that I might be scared. But even though you really do go quite a bit up, you don't see directly down and the images on the screen are so amazing you don't feel afraid. It's a wonderful ride and I highly, highly recommend it. In fact, I liked it so much, we got off and got right back in line to ride it a second time in a row.
After that, we tried to ride
Test Track but as we walked in the building, the lights turned off, we smelled burnt rubber and they said the ride was closed. So we hit
Spaceship Earth instead. We checked back but
Test Track was still closed. So we left to head to the Magic Kingdom.
It was a little before lunchtime when we hit MK. Got super excellent parking right up front which was helpful at the end of the night. (As we were able to simply walk to the car instead of waiting in the mad tram lines.) MK was more crowded then Epcot. It wasn't super busy, but it was definitely a good number of people. It was also hot. Dammit. The end of September and it was over 90F. I was hoping we'd keep it under 90F and the forecast said, "scattered showers" so I thought we might have some cloud cover to help break up the heat. No such luck. There were quite a few overly hot moments during the day. It was about 4-4:30pm before the clouds
finally came in a little and a breeze picked up. That helped. Because it was stagnent and humid and hot all day.
For all that we were worried about having enough time, we rode a ton of things - some multiple times - by around dinner. *laughs* And we were like...okay...what next? I got to meet
littlecatgirl in person which was cool. I've known her for a few years online and she's working at Pirates of the Caribbean now. It was really fun to actually meet. She even made a special anniversary call for us - Mickey and Minnie sang "Happy Anniversary" to us on the phone. It was really fun.
We also ran around trying to find both a Tinkerbell figurine (which we found) and a Captian Hook one (which quite simply does not exist). Another friend online asked if I could look for her and it turned into quite a quest.
Speaking of quests, I also did the Frontierland VMK (
Virtual Magic Kingdom) quest. For those who don't know, VMK is a free online game thats kinda Sims meets Disney. The quest questions were hard though! I actually had to go and really search down the answers. For someone who's been to the park like a hundred times and knows the speil to like all the rides and everything, it was quite funny to realy have no idea the random questions they asked. Though it was fun to do simply because it was something I'd never done before.
We got our photo taken with Mickey - always fun and something we often forget to do - and I got my super, all-time favorite treat: a pineapple Dole Whip float. (Yum!) We were sad because our former favorite place to eat (that had become tradition), Pinocchio Village Haus, no longer sells burgers. We hit Pecos Bill instead but it just wasn't the same. And! It was so crowded that a couple of older ladies came and sat down at our table with us! Sheesh. I miss Pinocchio Haus. We also checked out the new Pooh's Playful Spot area which is where the old
20,000 Leauges Under the Sea ride used to be. It's cute, but it's small and it's really only for kids. So I just snapped a few pics.
By the time 9pm came along, we were actually pretty darn tired. Which is funny since it wasn't even that terribly long of a day. Love bought me a Mickey balloon:
...which I might add is still happily floating right here on my desk. (I was pleasantly surprised at how long it's still full.) He said he needed to rectify the fact in all the years we'd been going and all the times we were there that he never bought me a balloon. I was all smiles 'cause I love things like that. I'm just a big kid sometimes. We watched
Wishes, nosed around the shops a little and then called it a night.
We got home around midnight or so. Took a nice hot shower - nothing feels better after walking around, sweating in the park all day - and relaxed on the couch a bit. I was super sleepy so I went to bed.
Sunday, we slept in and were both sore from all the walking we did. We were going to hit the local Pagan Pride day but it's a good 30+ minute drive away and neither of us were feeling that ambitious. Our a/c froze over - again - so we went to our friend Rand's house to watch a movie. It was a nice, lazy day after a long, fun, busy and active Saturday.
All-in-all we had a great time. Of course, as soon as we got home, I got the post-Disney jones to go back. I just enjoy myself so much and I love being there and I love when the two of us can have that much nice time together. It was a really nice day and there's not enough of those.
