Bay area Renaissance Festival 2012
Yesterday, we hit the Bay area Renaissance Festival. The weather was absolutely perfect and we wanted to take advantage of that. It’s been a VERY hot winter and since the festival runs February – April, it only gets hotter. And a sweltering festival makes for a very miserable time. But yesterday…oh, it was glorious weather. Clear skies, cool breeze, almost no humidity, about 70F (21C) – just perfect!
Love and I got there around 12:30pm and stayed until about 5:30pm. We wandered, browsed, watched the Human Combat chess, saw the mermaid show and just generally had a lovely time.
I didn’t really remember to take many pics so here are larger versions of the ones I tweeted yesterday.
The little kids were fascinated with the mermaid. LOL And, they had a great money-making scheme; if a kid handed the mermaid a dollar, she’d dive down to the shell in the tank, pick up a “mermaid gem” and bring it back for the kid to keep. Oh yeah, MANY little girls asking Daddy for a dollar after that announcement!
They actually had civilians as pawns this year in the match. Of course, none of them did any of the fighting. 🙂
It’s a fun time and an enjoyable afternoon! You’ll be tempted though by lots of yummy smelling food and lovely crafts so don’t say you weren’t warned! I’d recommend splitting an apple dumpling while you’re there – it’s a favorite of ours and no trip would be complete without one. We enjoyed one at the end of the day before we headed home and it made for a sweet ending to a fun day. 🙂

October 2013 Update: Happy 2 Year Anniversary!! I'm amazed at how different life is two years later. Though the hardest thing I've ever been through in my life, I've grown so much as a result of having overcome such terrifying and daunting medical issues. In a weird way, I'm better for having experienced these hardships. I'm more sure of myself these days and more confident I can face life's challenges better.
I have tried to turn this medical challenge into an opportunity and using this as a means to push forward with my small jewelry business and as a way to support myself again.
Your continued support is appreciated right now and even links to my shop are appreciated. Thank you to everyone who's helped and spread the word. All of you helped make it possible for me to be here and healthy.:: calendar ::

Sounds like a great event. We don’t have anything like that around here.
Renn Fairs are fun and silly and you get the range of people at them. I swear, people watching is half the fun! You get people REALLY into it and dressing up, drunk people just there for beer, casual fans, etc. It’s not to be taken seriously in any manner but a good time nonetheless. 🙂
BUT…. did you see Peter Pan?!?! 😉
(tee hee hee hee hee)
*laughs* Actually, I looked!! 😉 But, amazingly no. I didn’t see him.
